Do you NEED God?

We cause ourselves so much trouble because of our refusal to let God be involved with ALL facets of our lives and not just the religious/spiritual. Believe it or not, when we misplace things, God knows where they are. When we can’t figure out how to make something work, He knows how to do it. When we get frustrated by other people’s lack of intelligence or interest, He knows how to still get something done.



Far too many times we all are guilty of only going to God as a last resort when all else fails. Isn’t that a bit hypocritical? We say that God is first in our lives yet when it comes to simple and practical matters we put Him last. 

More and more each day I find myself whispering prayers for situations, people and needs that arise. I am trying to suppress my own intellect and lean on God’s wisdom when dealing with things. I am making a concentrated effort to immediately flip situations to God instead of falling for my longstanding habit of either getting angry or in a tizzy.

A huge part of loving God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength is to allow ourselves to NEED Him with all our heart... It is not only good to need God, it is essential if we are going to honestly trust Him to take care of us and love Him with every fiber of our being. To say “Lord I need you” is not a sign of weakness but rather evidence of trust and deeply rooted love for God.

God has promised us in Philippians 4 that He will supply all our NEED according to His riches in Christ Jesus. What if our greatest need is to need God? Will God supply that need as much as a loaf of bread or a drink of water? If the cry of our hearts is to need God more, He will certainly provide situations where either we carry out our desire to need Him or prove ourselves to just be whistling in the wind.

What is the deepest desire of your heart? Is it materialistic abundance? Is it fame and adoration? Is it to be loved and respected? Is this really what God meant when He spoke of faith to move mountains and caring for you? I think not.

Please take a moment and look again at Psalms 37:3-5:

“Trust in the Lord and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the Lord, and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”

The desire of our heart should be to trust in the Lord, do well and commit our way unto Him. These things are truly indicative of a person who NEEDS God and worthy of God’s promise to bring them to pass.
