Pension Scam: Maina begs court for safety
…Hearing adjourned till March 5
ABUJA—Embattled Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, PRTT, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, Tuesday, begged the Abuja High Court to shield him from arrest pending the determination of his suit.
Maina who was declared wanted following his alleged complicity in the illegal diversion of funds meant for pensioners across the federation, made the appeal on a day the Senate secured an order extending the warrant of arrest earlier issued against him.
Meantime, presiding Justice Adamu Bello yesterday fixed March 5 to commence hearing on the substantive suit that was entered before it by the accused pension boss who went into hiding following intensified bid by the upper legislative house to apprehend him for questioning.
At the resumed sitting on the case yesterday, Maina, through his counsel, Mr. M. A Magaji, SAN, pleaded the high court to compel the Senate and the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to maintain status-quo –ante, and refrain from taking any step towards arresting him pending the determination of the suit.
Besides, Maina urged the court to void the recent dissolution of PRTT by the Federal Government and order that issues pertaining to pension administration in the country should remain under him till the case is determined.
